Past Programmes: Learning Through Drama

The My Voice Project

The My Voice Project was a three year interview skills and employability project (April 2007 – March 2010) funded by the London Development Agency and developed in partnership with Pop-Up Theatre.

It used drama games and techniques, team building activities and mock interview sessions to deliver interview and employability skills workshops to 16 – 18 year olds who needed extra support for interview preparation and skills for life. Our actor facilitators worked with young people on a range of issues including communication skills and interpersonal skills, helping them to gain confidence in their own abilities and to value themselves and their achievements.

The project was expanded to develop bespoke courses for learners with learning difficulties and disabilities and we worked in a wide range of special needs schools.

Feedback from the My Voice project highlighted the needs focused and inclusive approach to learning, and the active and enjoyable sessions which helped learners to develop a greater understanding of the skills needed to move forward into the job market.

Quotes from young people involved in our programmes

The facilitators connected with the group in a fun and enjoyable way, while still teaching us key skills we can use in life.

The mix of activities with work was very effective because the tasks made us think about our future, whereas the games helped with team bonding.
