We all want what is best for our children but sometimes are not quite sure how to help them. Here at My Voice London, we understand the challenges that young people and their parents and carers can face. We can support you with a home visit or talk to you on the phone and, if necessary, help you access support from other agencies. We are an independent charity and our advice is confidential and impartial. We know that the teenage years can be an emotional roller coaster for parents, carers and children. Previously peaceful homes can become battlegrounds. Some young people become very uncommunicative and shut themselves in their rooms, others are never in. Most young people emerge unscathed... for others the transition into adulthood is more challenging. They may struggle in school, have trouble establishing positive friendships, be involved with drugs and alcohol, develop eating disorders, have issues around sexuality, become very depressed and self harm. Some young people get stuck in a rut and lack motivation. Sometimes events at home, such as divorce or separation and the creation of new step-families can make situations even more challenging. Parents and carers may have their own problems, such as jobs, housing, illness, financial challenges and demanding other children, which make dealing with a difficult young person almost impossible. We can help. |
